Three Magical Moments Happened After A CBC News Article Caught My Attention
My amazing real life experience with a fairy tale portrait session
Last January, a CBC Vancouver news article caught my eye on Facebook. (Remember when you could see the NEWS on Facebook?)
An upcoming charity event at Hycroft Manor would be celebrating photographer Denise Lin’s exciting 40-over-40 portrait project. It looked like such fun, and at the end of the story, I read that it was such a smash hit, Denise Lin Photography would be coordinating a second one. I got pretty excited!
Back at LaVigne Natural Skincare’s headquarters, the team had begun discussing our ideas for celebrating the big milestone: 20 years in business for our vegan beauty brand founded by my mom, Linda Zaurrini in 2003.
I began to dream a little.
We are a mother-daughter team, and spend our days together cooking up marketing ideas, pondering product launches, travelling to tradeshows, and creating the best customer service experience we can.
I wanted us to do something REALLY FUN together too. We called Denise Lin, and booked in. And I’m so happy we did.
Denise Lin is a passionate photographer, and is truly skilled at capturing glamour beauty, as well as family moments, headshots, branding, and even boudoir. Denise’s true passion lies in unveiling the beauty in everything, especially in women’s portraiture. She has a rare talent for capturing one’s true essence.
It all began with Denise’ personal reflection on entering her 40s and the desire to infuse this milestone with meaningful accomplishments. As the 40 Over 40 campaign unfolded, the stories shared by participants reinforced the incredible power and abilities that women possess. It became clear to Denise that her portraits could not only capture their confidence and charm but also inspire them to appreciate their power and value.
Through Denise’ eyes, “the experience of having beautiful photos taken is like discovering a treasure chest filled with self-love and confidence. It’s not just appearance, Denise shares, “it’s about capturing the real self – their strengths, their stories and what makes them special.”

Three Magical Moments That Came From This Experience
- I saw the confident me. Not the one that sometimes feels like I’ll never get all that laundry done, that I picked my kids up late again, that I wish I could be more organized. I saw the “me” that has accomplished so much, and should be proud; the me that knows, I am enough. I saw the strong me, the version that my son and daughter look up to. Denise captured her. I also saw my mom, who hasn’t always been a fan of having her photo taken, captured in such a beautiful way.
- We relished in the pampering provided by Denise’ team of hair and make up wizards. That’s the thing about professionals. They picked a hair style I didn’t know was coming, was truly surprised by, and was thrilled with in the final photo results. I think they called it “Hollywood Glamour”. I’ll take it.
- I got to play dress-up and have fun with my mom. Oh sure, we threw on “business” clothes and took headshots – absolutely…But the part where we put on fairy-tale inspired dramatic gowns, pretty matching accessories, and laughed together. It was a day I’ll remember forever.
Every time I look at these photos. I’ll remember how wonderful and empowering that day was, and I’ll remember that I am strong, smart, and deserve “me” time. I’ll appreciate that I had that amazing day with my mom.
And it’s not just us! Fellow participant Sheila shared, “I am grateful to have met Denise Lin… It was really an honour and privilege to be part of her 40 over 40 campaign. I will forever treasure the positive impact this experience brought me.”

Linda (Mom!) and I are so looking forward to the final portrait unveiling, and celebrating with our fellow 40 over 40s, at “Glowing Beyond”, an uplifting evening filled with inspiration and camaraderie, celebrating women’s empowerment, health balance, and supporting BC Women’s Health Foundation, at Hycroft Manor on March 9th, 2024.
