It is amazing how extensive indigenous knowledge was, we’ve learned much through archaeological discoveries, how deep was the understanding of the powerful remedies the earth held. One of our favourite Mayan ingredients recently rediscovered by the scientific community was the result of an industrial accident in the 1980’s. In Mexico City a series of explosions resulted in hundreds of people being burned, many had their wounds dusted with Tepezcohuite bark powder. The natural properties of the bark powder provided comfort to the injured and is one reason why the tree is commonly known as the ‘skin tree’.
