Now that it’s officially winter, the dry skin season has begun! We’ve compiled some helpful tips to keep your skin moist and beautiful.

  1. Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or better, even if it’s cloudy outside. Apply sunblock 30 minutes prior to exposure to the sun and re-apply after 2 to 3 hours
  2. Take a short bath or shower (no more than 10 minutes) only once in a 24 hour period. For adults, showers are generally better than baths
  3. The bath or shower should be in warm rather than hot water. While longer baths or showers, especially in hot water, can be quite relaxing, they will also increase the loss of natural oils from the skin and worsen skin dryness
  4. After bathing or showering, quickly and gently pat the skin partially dry with a towel (do not rub!). Within three minutes of getting out of the water apply a moisturizer
  5. Use a thicker, richer moisturizer. You may need to re-apply throughout the day
  6. Drink lots of water (6 to 8 glasses a day) to provide the necessary hydration for your skin
  7. Avoid products with high alcohol content as well as heavy perfumes. These can irritate your sensitive, dry skin
  8. Gently exfoliate your skin to remove the dead surface skin cells that can form due to excessive dryness
  9. Use a soothing lip balm or moisturizing lipstick, preferably with sunscreen, to treat chapped lips
  10. Increase the humidity level in the air of your home and workplace
